Tanner is a detail-oriented lawyer, who prioritizes his clients’ needs and objectives. A passionate advocate, Tanner takes great pride in leveraging his prior training and experiences in the biological sciences, northern policy, and law to deliver effective solutions for his clients.
Tanner’s legal practice focuses on environmental civil litigation, appeals of regulatory orders and approvals, defence of environmental regulatory prosecutions, and judicial review of administrative decisions. He also assists clients with environmental transactional advice, regulatory compliance, environmental due diligence and risk management.
Prior to beginning his legal career, Tanner gained experience in laboratories studying behavioural ecology and molecular physiology. Tanner relies on his technical background to advocate for clients in complex environmental matters.

Defence of Agricultural Operation
Assisted an agricultural business settle provincial charges against it, achieving a favourable outcome for the client. Tanner’s work included reviewing crown disclosure, and attending settlement and judicial pre-trials alongside co-counsel.
Representation of Municipality in Ontario Land Tribunal Hearing
Assisted municipality in responding to an appeal of the municipality’s Order for Recovery of Costs and Expenses under the Environmental Protection Act. The Order was in response to a significant environmental event. Tanner’s work included preparing witnesses, drafting questions for cross-examination, attending a two-week Ontario Land Tribunal hearing alongside co-counsel, and preparing closing submissions.
