Willms & Shier is chairing this Ontario Bar Association seminar and webinar on September 16, 2014 discussing the Supreme Court of Canada's significant recent decisions in Tsilhqot'in Nation v. British Columbia (a.k.a. Roger William) and Grassy Narrows First Nation v. Ontario (Natural Resources) (a.k.a. Keewatin). 

These decisions will drive the law and politics of Aboriginal title and treaty rights for years to come. Issues that the seminar will explore include:

• the contrast between the protection of Aboriginal title and vulnerability of harvesting rights under the numbered treaties - implications for the treaty relationship in Ontario
• the provincial Crown's ability to infringe and to take up lands and accompanying obligations, such as duty to consult,  fiduciary duty and the obligation to justify any infringement.
